Notes:

[john peters]: Vince presented me with three comic treatments to choose from, so naturally I chose the fourth one, the one he dashed out not 10 minutes before I arrived at his house that day, November 3, 1996. The original title was Pandora in the Big City... A week later I had ten or so sketchbook pages based on his treatment, and added a few new ideas. This exchange went on weekly until an informal prose-like script was completed in mid-December 1996. Page work began January 1997.
When Vince started looking into getting distributors, he was told that the title Pandora in the Big City might be mistaken for the scantily-clad action girl comic Pandora produced by another publisher. Vince struggled for a few days with different titles until he pulled inspiration from his love of the work of silent film star Anna May Wong... one of her films was called Forty Winks. [incidentally, Annabelle Wu, Pandora's best friend and fellow dreamer, was named for the character Anna May Wong played in Forty Winks.]
Work on Forty Winks #1 was completed in August 1997, and premiered at the Small Press Expo in September 1997.
